─ Buzzer v1.10 ──────────────────────── Copyright Steve Mulligan 1992 - 1993 ─
NOTE : If you use Buzzer and you NetMail me, Steve Mulligan, at 1:163/307.30
then I will send you a NetMail every time I release a version of
Buzzer and I will tell you when I have sent it.
─ Introduction ─
Quite simply, Buzzer is a program that beeps at you. I figured I should
release it because it is the most ANNOYING, LOUD beep I have ever heard made
by a computer. I stumbled accross the sound accidentally and I thought, gee,
that would be great to notify me when I had just received mail! So, I made
it beep at me whenever my mail processor was done. But that just wasn't
enough. Sometimes, I would get mail late at night (11:00pm) and most of the
people in my house were alseep. So, I had to rewrite it to not beep at
certain times. So, here you go. Buzzer. A program that beeps at you - only
when you want it to.
─ Setting It Up ─
To start setting up Buzzer, you must edit the config file. All the lines in
the config file that start with a ; will be ignored. The config file name
is BUZZER.CFG. Edit it with a text editor.
If you want to have a diffrent name for a config file (or multiple config
files) you may do so. To tell Buzzer which config file to use, simple
include the full file name on Buzzer's command line.
These are the options you can have in the the config file.
BEEP
The Beep config verb tells Buzzer how many times it should play it's very
loud, very cool warning beep. The default is 5. The minimum is 0, the
maximum is 255.
eg: Beep 1
CLEARBEGIN
The ClearBegin config verb will make Buzzer clear the keyboard buffer before
it runs. This will null out any keystrokes that might already be waiting to
be processed. Valid options on ClearBegin are Yes and No. The default is
No.
eg: ClearBegin No
CLEAREND
The ClearEnd config verb will make Buzzer clear the keyboard buffer after it
runs so you don't have any keypresses in the buffer that might have gotten
there before or during Buzzer's execution. Valid options on ClearEnd are Yes
and No. The default is No.
eg: ClearEnd No
KEYSTOP
The KeyStop config verb will make Buzzer stop beeping at the touch of a key.
This is handy if someone in house is asleep and all of a sudden, the buzzer
goes off. (Pressing a button will stop the sound). Valid options for
KeyStop are Yes and No. The default is Yes.
eg: KeyStop Yes
XX:XX
The xx:xx config verb is a very usefull option. It lets you control how
many times Buzzer will beep depending on the current time. To use this
option, you simply put the current time on the start of a new line in 24
hour format (eg. 23:45) followed by one space and the number of times you
want Buzzer to beep from that time to the next time defined (00:00 if
there is no more time definitions)
For example, the following configuration :
00:00 0
08:00 1
11:00 5
20:00 2
21:00 0
Will do the following :
Mute beeps from 00:00 to 07:59
Beep twice from 08:00 to 10:59
Beep five times from 11:00 to 19:59
Beep twice from 20:00 to 20:59
Mute beeps from 21:00 to 00:00
There is no default. Anything you define will override the Beep config
verb. There can be a maximum of 32. Theses times must progress earlyer
to later.
─ What Can I Use It For ─
Put it in a batch file so when your mail is done being processed, it will
summon you. Make it the chat bell for your BBS. Make it the signal to ring
when your maintenance is done.
─ Beta Testers Wanted ─
If you are in the 163 or 243 net or you don't mind polling long distance
you are eligible to be a beta testers. Simply NetMail Steve Mulligan at
1:163/307.30. I will reply to you and tell you how to get the latest beta
versions of software I make.
